Every student is different, with different goals, different passions, and different backgrounds. So every student needs a different teaching method. I prefer to spend some time in the first lesson getting to know the student and his or her background to determine what specific methods work best for them. For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. My musical experience dates back almost 13 years. I first picked up drumsticks when I was 7 years old, and I haven't been able to put them down since! Throughout my career so far, I have performed in award winning wind ensembles both in high school, and as extra curricular ensembles, like the North Carolina Youth Wind Ensemble.
