My approach is focused very much on performance, technicalities, and theory. I believe it is very important for the student to understand how these aspects of playing coincide with each other, and how they are equally essential to music playing. Before giving a student a piece of music to play, I will always play it befoehand and dissect the song into portions that I feel need special attention. I encourage playing with other musicians, and always try to teach the art ofimprovisation, so that the students can learn to play not only by themselves, but with other musicians, using the musicial understanding that it takes to improvise. I started teaching during my days at the Conservatory, as it was required in the study program. I graduated as a performer and educator in classical and Afro-Cuban percussion, with the piano as a complementary instrument. Teaching has always been an important and constant part of my career, since I have always viewed teaching as a learning tool.
