My entire life has been full of music. I have close family members on both my mother's and father's side that played music extensively through their lives. I began playing drums at the age of 10 and three years later picked up guitar. Since then, I learned to read music and taught myself how to play piano, banjo, mandolin, bass guitar, and a very small pinch of the violin. A passion for learning music is never something that can be forced. Therefore, when teaching a student, I never force them to achieve unattainable goals. I encourage them to learn at their own pace with "stepping-stone" goals; my students learn rudiments that build onto progressively more advanced techniques! I will also look at songs pertaining to their chosen instrument and their current proficiency at said instrument. Most of my lesson plans are customized for each student, depending the style they are interested in, and the level that they are already playing. Generally speaking for beginners, I begin with teaching about the instrument (string names, frets, tuning, etc.). Then we move on to chords, starting with the easiest ones to play.
