For beginning students I typically start them on just the snare drum by itself. The drum set has a lot of moving parts and I've noticed that kids get discouraged and sometimes quit when they don't pick things up as quickly as they would like too. Once they have an understanding of the fundamentals then we can continue moving forward in their musical development. I have been teaching on and off since 2010 and now teach almost exclusively from my home studio in Bloomington, IN.
