Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I began teaching drum lessons part time when I was a sophomore in college. I taught a diverse group of students of all ages and with different skill levels out of a small musical instrument store. I also taught percussion to groups of middle and high school students helping them prepare for concerts and district solo and ensemble competitions. His compositions for Jazz Orchestra have been performed by high school, college, and professional big bands in Minnesota. He is a member of the Twin Cities Jazz Composer’s Workshop, and is currently serving a term on the Board of Directors of the MetroNOME Foundation. He books and arranges youth jazz performances for MetroNOME' Brewery’s Next Generation Jazz Series. His group, the Blue Ox Jazz Trio, is consistently upholding a busy performance schedule, performing at restaurants, clubs, weddings, private events, and countless retirement homes every year. Whatever type of music they are interested in playing, I find several examples to pull from that and use it as teaching material and relate it back to our foundational training. This keeps our lessons fun, engaging, and rewarding. For Drum set, I teach from Tommy Igoe's "Groove Essentials 1.0/2.0" and John Riley's "The Art of Bop Drumming". For brass, woodwind, and percussion students who are in a school band or orchestra, I would use the school's chosen method book in additional to supplemental materials that I would provide, based on the student's interests and needs. For those who are not in band and are just starting, my preferred method for brass and woodwind players is Tradition of Excellence. For intermediate players, I like to use material from the Rubank Intermediate book in addition to more fun material on an individual basis. Read More
