As a percussionist, I am proficient in a vast amount of instruments from all over the world, and have experience performing in a wide variety of musical styles. I am very comfortable in classical, jazz, pop and hip-hop styles as well as traditional musics from all over the globe including Brazilian, West African, Indian, Persian, Arabic and more. I have a few years teaching experience and I am always excited to begin working with young students who are interested in becoming musicians themselves. I focus a lot on the technical aspects of musicianship because I believe everyone has their own feeling that they bring to music and I want to give my students the tools to be able to express themselves in their own musical way. Practice is definitely important in order for students to get familiar with the instrument and different styles and I also believe that learning different styles of music tends to help students to get better at the ones they like to play. I began teaching at Humboldt State University in 2010, through an education program for children ages 6-15. During the year and a half I worked there, I discovered a genuine love for sharing the passion and enthusiasm I had for music with my students. After 2 1/2 more year of leading student ensembles, teaching children and adults individually and in groups, and giving private lessons out of my home, I have amassed enough experience to feel confident teaching any student passionate about learning.
