I am very goal oriented in teaching. I use a similar methodology as learning a language. I prefer the Hal Leonard books for beginning students. Some of the major aspects I like to focus on are three areas being 1) Rudiments, Scales, and Chords, 2) Educational books, 3) favorite song repertoire. For students younger than 15, I recommend only 30 minutes unless students are more experienced and very engaged in their instrument. Students older than 16 can take more advantage of a 45 minute or even an hour lesson. Read More

My teaching style consist of setting realistic goals and encouraging students to push past what they think their limitations are. Getting my students to understand that this journey is a marathon and not a race is important so that they can understand how they should pace themselves as they progress. Offering my students a chance of performing in front of an audience through recitals, gives them motivation to continue to strive to be a better player and allows them to see the fruits of their labor.
