I like to show videos of high level playing and introduce a wide variety of genres and styles while I find exactly what it is that inspires the student to play. At the beginning, students will be handed easy lessons learning how to gain control of the sticks and their hands. Withing 2-3 lessons, a book will be introduced and weekly homework will be given. My teaching style is relaxed. I don't want to have a student stressed out about learning. I will give weekly homework that I will expect students to work on . Since I have always believed that "one size does not necessarily fit all" I have found this to be a better approach to rapidly putting my students at the next level. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Kid's Keyboard Course Book #1. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
