I began my music teaching journey back in 2012 after attending the University of Colorado Denver. I was pursuing a music degree and at the time I believed touring would be my main source of income. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a lifelong passion for music! Therefore, its important that each student progresses an his or her pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals and creating a custom tailored game plan to achieve these markers. The experience I have teaching goes back to my time at the University of Colorado Denver, I enrolled in an Afro-Cuban hand percussion class, and in a music pedagogy(teaching) course. The music pedagogy course taught me numerous teaching philosophies and required me to teach lessons regularly with a student. I love drumming, and love teaching it! I teach from my own written material inspired by my music experience at school and the lessons I've been taught over the years. I have written hundreds of pages of exercises from which to pull for virtually every difficulty and style. I have played literally thousands of original and cover songs with many bands. I started teaching occasional private lessons while attending college. Though this started with teaching my friends, it branched out to some strangers as well. After graduating, I started teaching at a lesson studio, maintaining a steady roster of 20-25 students every week. Teaching has definitely helped me develop my own knowledge of my instrument as well! I have found that in addition to simply teaching concepts, talking about my past experiences learning my instrument helps students connect with the material at a deeper level because they can trace a path from where they are to where I am, ability-wise.
