I am a dedicated music teacher based in southern California who loves spreading my love for music with other students.  I graduated from Indiana University with a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance with an outside area study of jazz improvisation.  I've been fortunate enough to tour the country including a performance in Carnegie Hall in New York city.  I currently play and write music with multiple groups as a percussionist, drummer, vibraphonist, and steel drummer in the Indianapolis area. One of the things that puts a smile on my face is seeing one of my students develop a passion for music as well as a passion for learning. Therefore, its important that each student progresses at their own pace. I try to encourage this by setting realistic and attainable goals for my students at every lesson. I have been teaching on and off since 2010 and now teach almost exclusively from my home studio in Bloomington, IN. I've had the experience of teaching everyone from 4 year olds to advanced adult students and implemented various teaching methods for the many different minds learning styles. I always liked to look at the art of music like learning a language so I have since learned to create individualized lesson plans for my students that gives students plenty time to "speak", that is learning the fundamentals, phrases, and tools to share their personal story and to study the vast pedigree of music that has come before them. If teachers skip the fundamentals, there is no foundation. I think the best teachers integrate fun with drills which creates the best results. I am a competitor by nature, so I have a goal to get the best out of my students. I will do what I have to do to make sure these students can play by the time we are done.
