I have been in percussion of 7-8 years. Doing marching percussion. Indoor and outdoor marching band as well as my church band playing drumset. I love music and would love the opportunity to teach you or your talented child. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I set goals for my students to achieve and once the basics have been mastered I open it up for them to decide. IF they want to be a performer I will work with them toward being a great performer. I create my own lesson plans (and some materials) specific to each student. Some standard books I use are Alfred's Drum Method book 1, The New Breed, Portraits in Rhythm, The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary to name a few. The books are necessary for developing music literacy, however I remind students that the pages don't make sound!!! Developing a discerning ear is paramount in my approach. Therefore we do a lot of listening and I engage students in dialogue for them to develop a personalized mental image of what they are trying to play. Read More

My musical experience dates back almost 13 years. I first picked up drumsticks when I was 7 years old, and I haven't been able to put them down since! Throughout my career so far, I have performed in award winning wind ensembles both in high school, and as extra curricular ensembles, like the North Carolina Youth Wind Ensemble. I have also performed in a variety of marching ensembles. From 2018 to 2019, I marched with, and got gold medals with the Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps. Read More
