Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I often allow students curiosity and intuition to inform what students learn in their lessons. I approach teaching music like teaching a new language. It requires repetition and immersion to get the most out of it. I understand and remember the difficulties I faced in learning music so I help students navigate those challenges through their lessons. For all ages I like to begin with a skills test. Where they show me where they currently stand with their instrument. From there I refer to books by Trevor Wye to give students a strong fundamental basis in tone, technique, articulation, intonation/vibrato, and breathing/scales. From there the lessons would be tailored to where the student wants to go with their learning. The road to it is to raise their awareness of a bigger context. No matter if we play a concerto, a clarinet duet, or are part of a jazz ensemble, we are always part of a bigger picture. In providing another voice for the students – by playing counter point for example – and helping them over time to do the same, supporting me in any kind of music, is a great tool to feel the mutual pulse, to develop a strong sense of time and rhythm even if there is no rhythm section around.
