I currently teach elementary general music and 4th/5th grade band lessons in a Brooklyn public school-the New York City Department of Education. My first student was a NYC firefighter that I met in October 2001 right after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He was looking for a way to distract himself from the experience that he had gone through.
