For beginning students I focus on the basic skills, how to hold the clarinet, how the ambrochure should be, how to breathe, and learn the basic notes and fingerings of a scale. I will admit will full confidence that I am the type of teacher to keep it laid back and casual, but will not let my student stop giving me their full effort. If anything, they will be disappointing themself in the future, and I refuse to allow that to happen. I focus on a skills based learning regimen. I often start beginners out without using a book, just learning to make the instrument perform before we add the complexities of music notation to the mix. With more advanced students I work on the small details of mastering the instrument, and translate that into performance.
