I believe every person's needs are different making the books and pieces that I recommend different for each student. But, teaching materials in my studio include etude and study books, exercises written by myself to target specific needs and standard solo repertoire that I believe every saxophone or clarinetist should play. Students will also be requested to keep a journal either electronically or on paper with short notes about practice sessions from each day, to help guide goals and instruction in each lesson. While I don't have much experience teaching instruments (yet!!!), I have been teaching for a long time. Dating back to high school I would often tutor students on various subjects like math, chemistry, and, of course, music. I was known for explaining things to students that they couldn't understand the way that the teachers would teach it. Nowadays, I'm often tutoring my fellow music majors on music theory and I'm planning on starting a club next semester at my college to teach people music that don't want to learn in a classical teaching method.
