I believe that there is no one method you can use for every student. Method books can be useful but I try not to rely on them because I always found them boring if overused. I try to build lessons around styles of music that the student is interested in. It's always a balancing act trying to find the music for each student. I want my students to have a say in what we're doing, as well as allow them to practice analyzing the music themselves rather than telling them what to see.
