I focus on a skills based learning regimen. I often start beginners out without using a book, just learning to make the instrument perform before we add the complexities of music notation to the mix. With more advanced students I work on the small details of mastering the instrument, and translate that into performance. My teaching clarinet began when I was in high school, giving lessons to 18+-students after school and on Saturdays. Later, in college, I continued to teach on the weekends, helping to cover additional expenses. Then, in the national guard band, I taught private lessons to several of my fellow clarinetists.
