Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I have spent 24 years with the cello. I graduated with honors from the Appomattox Regional Governor's School for Arts and Technology in Petersburg, VA in 2005, and have a BFA in cello performance and music theory from Loyola University New Orleans. I have studied under Joel Krosnick, Tanya Anisimova, Neal Cary, Jason McComb, and Allen Nisbet, and have participated in masterclasses with Lynn Harrell, Clancy Newman, and Alisa Weilerstein, to name a few. I offer the Suzuki method of teaching for all beginners and pair it with Essentials for Strings to engage music theory into the lessons. As the students progress there are more books to choose and duets to practice Chamber Music and more advanced techniques. For Beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Method, and essentials for Strings. After they have graduated and begin reading and understanding the basic concepts of music , and reading we begin to play duets and test of types of music. Read More

For beginning cello students who are children, I typically start with Suzuki method elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. To me it is especially rewarding to see how people (kids and adults) grow in different aspects of their lives when learning an instrument, especially the Cello. I have experience teaching in a group setting as well as in an one-to-one setting.
