I have been teaching for over 25 years. I have 5 children of my own who are all musicians. I have studied pedagogy at the University of Illinois and have also studied the Suzuki method. I feel lucky that I can take all of these experiences and methods and combine them to what works best for my students. What I have found is that there is not one clear cut method- every student learns in a different way. Read More

I have played musical instruments since I was 11 years old when I began on the clarinet. I was that child who always wanted to play everyone else's instrument too, so when I grew up I became a music teacher so that I could learn them all. I push my students gently, always mindful of their individual boundaries and comfort levels. It's essential that they feel supported and encouraged, which fosters a positive and long-lasting relationship with music. By incorporating therapeutic approaches, I ensure that my teaching is a source of inspiration and personal growth, not just a means to an end. In essence, my teaching style is a harmonious blend of musical instruction and emotional well-being. Read More

For beginning students I like to begin with a combination of Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. I find Essential Elements to be useful for learning the fundamentals of playing the instrument and music theory. However, Suzuki offers the ability for students to quickly play solo repertoire. I also incorporate learning and understanding scales for the purpose of learning fingering patterns and intonation. As students progress, I also find Rick Monney's Positions Pieces extremely valuable. Read More
