My teaching experience is primarily in one on one or small group settings. I have taught several students as young as 10 years old. It is my experience that a student's approach to their instrument varies with their age. The more time one spends with an instrument, the more one expects to have a certain sound. For younger beginners, I will start with the basics of cello, mostly through the Essential Elements books. Once the student is ready, we will mostly stick to the Suzuki method, starting at cello book 1, and moving through each piece. For older beginners, I will still try to stick to Suzuki as a format, but will be open to letting the student choose what they might want to start playing. I found it important for myself as a teacher to change my teaching styles according to each student. I am a positive and encouraging instructor, and emphasize proper technique, music theory, and fundamentals through a variety of musical styles ranging from classical to popular music. My students are all ages (I once had a student start at the age of 70!) and come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. I had a successful private studio from 2003 until 2008. My students ranged in ages from beginners to seniors in high school. Then I began teaching formally in schools in 2008 until 2017 where I taught middle and high school orchestra and choir and also elementary music.
