There I was able to develop my skills as a teacher, and nurture my passion for education. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in various studios since then. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. As a young child, I was a music nerd, practicing all the time, listening all the time... until practicing started to feel like work and music got competitive. I stopped playing for several years and even when I returned to cello, studying music in college made it feel like I was doing it for all the wrong reasons. I been playing the piano since age 3 (over 40 years ago!). Since getting certified, I can play and teach all instruments, with piano being my primary instrument.   In teaching voice, I am sensitive to the delicate nature of young voices and teach total musicianship, including tonal memory, scales, sight-reading, and repertoire. I highly encourage students to sing music they love and feel a real connection to; any style or genre is fair game!
