Brady A

Instruments:

Cellist Brady A. recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor's degree in Music where he studied cello with Jonathan Koh. As an avid orchestral musician, he has played in the cello sections of several local orchestras, such as the Stockton Symphony, Monterey Symphony, and Fresno Philharmonic. He was principal cellist of the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and the Berkeley Chamber Orchestra, and belongs to several chamber groups, in addition to various other ensembles. Brady is also an accomplished soloist, having won the Solano Symphony Young Artist Competition three times and the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition twice. This led to solo engagements performing Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto in C major, Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto in E Minor, Antonin Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor, Dmitri Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1 in Eb Major, and a rare double concerto for violin and cello by Camille Saint-Saens called La Muse et le Poète. Recently, Brady was asked back to perform the Schumann Cello Concerto in A minor with the Solano Symphony. In 2011, Brady won second prize at the prestigious Music Teachers National Association’s (MTNA) nationwide competition, after winning first prize in both the state and regional MTNA competitions. Brady's former teachers include Irene Sharp, Paul Rhodes and John Bennett. He has participated in master classes of Tamás Varga, Zuill Bailey, Emilio Colón, Mark Votapek, Irene Sharp, Wendy Sharp, the Alexander String Quartet and the Hausmann String Quartet. Brady enjoys performing many genres of music, and has recorded with many artists and groups, including Nataly Dawn and Jennifer Hudson. Brady recently branched out into hip hop, performing with Deltron 3030 at Rock the Bells 2012. An experienced cello teacher, Brady served as Jonathan Koh’s Teaching Assistant at UC Berkeley, and currently assists at Mr. Koh’s private studio, while maintaining his own private cello studios in the South Bay and Pleasanton.

More Information About Cello Lessons

Most beginners start out with a cello rental, which includes the cello, bow, and case. A high-quality rental usually will cost around $20 to $40 a month. If you are considering buying a cello, student instruments begin at around $500. Our instructors can provide recommendations and insight to help you choose the right instrument that suits your needs. When buying or renting a cello for a young child, make sure they are present to ensure the instrument purchased is the correct size for their height and age.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home Cello lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
Our teachers create a customized lesson plan for every student, so no two students' lesson plans will be identical. Topics covered during Musika's cello lessons may include, but are not limited to: learning the notes on cello, proper finger placement and bowing technique, how to read music, beginning to Advanced repertoire, including common orchestral excerpts, music theory, basic form and analysis, and most importantly, how to have fun playing the cello!
Many adult students request cello lessons because of the instrument's sophistication and beautiful tone. Many adult beginners will find the cello slightly easier than the violin, simply because finger placement is farther apart, making it a little easier to distinguish between the correct notes.
Because of the cello's large size, our recommended starting age is seven or eight, although exceptions can certainly be made for a younger student who is capable of handling the instrument properly and with sufficient strength in the fingers and hands. The cello is also an excellent instrument for students of all ages who have some experience with other members of the violin family, or even as a beginning instrument.
