I have a very fun yet effective teaching style. I try to help students reach their personal goals on the instrument. I also like to recognize each achievement no matter how small to show my students how their practicing and hard work has paid off. I want each student to progress at their own pace and mostly to show them what the world of music has to offer. Read More

I create custom lesson plans depending on each student's musical background, stylistic preference, as well as age. For children I usually like to teach out of Hal Leonard's Guitar Method 1 and occasionally include songs they like/know as a reward for good work. For adults, it varies depending on their experience level and interests. When I teach, I try to teach not only how to physically play certain parts, but also how to think about music-- how the guitar player arrived playing that, why it works, and how to adopt similar things into one's own playing. The first lesson typically is to set expectations and evaluate the students level of guitar knowledge. For beginners, we start from the beginning utilizing Aaron Shearers method book. For the intermediate player, we find music that is appropriate for their level of playing while also focusing on reading music and music theory applied to the guitar. For advanced players, we begin by reviewing music theory applied to guitar and focus on music for their level of playing. advanced players will go through the same practices as a university student studying guitar performance. I am a public school teacher here in Austin and I have done my best to incorporate music in the classroom. I have taught instruments to my students, recorded an album with student written songs, hosted school wide performances, and visited students at home for personalized music education. I have also introduced and taught adults to instruments they now play professionally. I am currently a music mentor with a local non-profit that brings music to foster care children. Read More

For a first timer i typically would relate with the student so as to connect with the basis for their interest in learning the musical instrument. Different students have different levels of perception or assimilation. This i establish before i even start the introductory class proper. Then i go through the fundamentals with the student, and observe their progress along the way. My instruction is flexible even though its structured in a way that prompts the student for further and regular improvements. Read More
