My teaching style is casual, friendly and positive. Eveyone progresses at a different pace, so I set realistic goals and use different approaches based on the various learning styles -- visual, tactile and auditory -- that work best for each individual. I play along with you in unison, in accompaniment and in duets, starting with the very beginning lessons. I want even the simple things to sound good when you play them because that is what motivates you to keep learning more and more. Read More
Instruments: Piano, Guitar, Voice, Bass Guitar, Synthesizer, Ukulele, Keyboard
My preferred piano method is Piano Adventures and I recommend using the Lesson, Theory, and Sight Reading books at each level. For guitar and voice I typically do not follow any specific method unless the student has a preference. For more advance piano students I typically will begin using Suzuki or move them to Burgmller Etudes and Schumann's Opus 68 - Album for the Young. I perform an assessment of new students in the areas of sight reading, music theory, rhythm, performance, and ear training. Read More

I use the song-by-song method: I have my students choose a number of songs they want to learn, and I teach them how to play those songs one by one, learning the basics of guitar along the way. For intermediate students, I would use the same method, but encourage them to choose more complex songs. This method teaches the student guitar playing techniques without bogging them down with confusing music theory and scales (although we can learn those things later after the student progresses). The two paths that are commonly chosen are the hobbiest and the advanced student. For someone who is interested in guitar as a hobby we will focus on learing songs that they enjoy listening to, and how to recreate the guitar riffs and solos they love. For the advanced student we will begin to learn the guitar on an indepth level. We will explore advanced techniques, improvising over top of the complex harmonies of jazz and modern music, and other advanced concepts and ideas of music. Read More

I am a very involved teacher. I love to have fun and I can be very serious. I love spend time with my students. I try to get more from them than they think they have. It’s really all about the relationship between the student and teacher. This is even more important than learning music. A happy life is about having good relationships with people. What good is anything if one doesn’t have good relationships? Read More
