During my time in Venezuela, I performed with various ensembles and orchestras specializing in Latin music, jazz, and pop. For students who are young children, I typically start by addressing the importance of playing what you hear. So, I will teach them beginner classics, such as Twinkle Twinkle and Merry had a Littl eLamb, but I also teach them what thunder sounds like, or a siren, and etc. by drawing on everyday life obejects that create noise. I began my musical career in high school taking on paid gigs at an early age and after graduation I had the opportunity to begin playing professionally right away. Before moving to Florida my central home for 15 years was in an arts-based community north of San Francisco where I was a member in several groups that gained significant notoriety throughout Northern California and the Greater North West. In the first lessons, I explain the the beginner students the basic functionality of the instruments, the proper way to hold the instruments, how to produce a clear sound from the instruments and a Major scale ascending and descending, the one from which the first lessons or the next lessons is written. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. It's important that each of my students progress at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
