Kasey K

Instruments: Piano, Guitar, Violin, Viola, Bass Guitar, Harmonica, Mandolin, Electric Violin, Fiddle, Double Bass

My teaching experience spans 6 years. I've taught all ages, so I'm comfortable with everybodys learning pace. In college I studied under the Latin Grammy award winning La Catrina Quartet, and I hope to pass down the knowledge I gain from that experience to my students. With my students, I take them step by step through were they are as a musician, to were they need to be. My experience working in ensembles will also expand my students ability to play in groups of all sizes (which will often happen). Read More

Lessons for young students (typically those twelve and under), an hour lesson consists of ten minutes of warm-up material (scales and rhythm concepts), fifteen minutes of content review (songs and concepts previously learned), fifteen minutes of introducing material or practice critique, and ten minutes of in-class practice. The last fifteen minutes of class is for theory building and notation comprehension (in vernacular, music-reading), and the last few minutes is for lesson review, where we discuss what we learned in the lesson and what the expectations are for the following week. Through the years, I learned to concurrently teach the musical fundamentals to my students along with how those fundamentals apply to their instrument in a broad context! I intend to always tailor my lessons to my students desires, needs, and curiosity and keep the inspiration thriving. Read More

Zoe M

Instruments: Violin, Electric Violin, Fiddle

As their playing develops, I will make sure that beginner students have good posture and technique in order to fend off any bad habits that could develop later. For my more experienced students, I believe in working on equal parts technique and repertoire. I will select standard repertoire that is at the appropriate level for the student, and will build a technical curriculum around the specific challenges in that piece of music. Read More

Marcela C

Instruments: Violin, Viola

With children, I typically start with Essential Elements for Strings by Michael Allen, Robert Gillespie and Pamela Tellejohn Hayes. I complement that with the Suzuki method and other fun easy songs I have picked through the years of experience . Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes, scales, vibrato and eventually shifting; and of course solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance.
