For beginning students, I usually teach with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books starting with book 1 to book 3. Once they are comfortable, and progression is recognized, I will introduce Suzuki Violin School. Not only do I solely focus on the music, I give students hand and bow exercises they can do during lessons or while just sitting at home watching TV. Hello there! I am a current VCU student in the Musical Education course of study with an interest in teaching younger and older students alike, with a focus on particularly reaching neurodivergent students. I'm currently a junior, with 10 years of viola performance and 8 years of violin performance. I've given performances both solo and chamber in the Singelton Center for the Performing Arts, along with side gigs. I teach children a supplimented Suzuki method, which means I teach the Suzuki Violin Method books with supplimental repertoire in addition such as fiddle tunes and other method books. I introduce note reading from the beginning in the most simple form, and gradually teach them along the way. I use scales, arpeggios, and tonalization to establish a solid technique in my first-year students which enables them to tackle intermediate skills such as shifting and vibrato with ease. Read More
