I served as Principle Second for the Salish Sea Orchestra in 2024, and served as Concertmaster for the Rainbow City Orchestra from 2011 to 2015, beginning when I was nineteen years old. Other orchestras include the Encanto Orchestra (where I served as Concertmaster on occasion) and the Seattle Rock Orchestra. My motto is my students create their own lesson. I formulate lesson plans off of the styles of music you are most interested in. If my student has a more "just for fun" attitude, the lesson will inevitably be a more light hearted feel. I approach teaching the same way I have been taught. By learning at my own pace and by setting realistic goals that can be met but also keep me challenged. I work with students that way because it can be tailored to any type or level of a student. I also keep in mind what the students are interested in. I'm a lifelong musician and grew up playing piano with my grandparents, who are both concert pianists and taught me how to play. I have my A.A. in music from Mt. San Jacinto C.C. and have studied under a number of great professional artists. I have been in a ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin tribute band, as well as a 00's and 10's rock cover band. Melanie is an active performer and educator in the Pacific Northwest. As a classically trained percussionist, she believes that a true educator must remain active in performance and growth to be the best possible. She has performed with a variety of large and chamber ensembles, notably: Talujon Percussion Quartet at the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, Slee Sinfonietta, the Southern Tier Symphony, and the UB Percussion Ensemble at the June in Buffalo Festival.
