I graduated from Agnes Scott College in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Violin Performance. Ive participated in a number of ensembles including the Agnes Scott Community Orchestra and multiple chamber ensembles. If the student has never played violin before, I start by just working on posture. I may have the student hold the violin and bow but not play. This is to make sure the setup is a good starting point. I would then work on some pizzicato, just plucking the strings to get a feel for the instrument and the sound.
