Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I've been teaching from as early as middle school. I had my first two bassoon students in middle school. Throughout high school I was a teachers assistant to my band and choir directors and frequently led sectionals, class activities or solo lessons. Advanced students should have a solid grasp of all the basic intervals of double-stops, and, in fact, should be able to play any combination of any two notes spanning up to a tenth, or as far as their fingers can reach. Thorough study of Dont and basic scale studies can help to achieve this, but it reaches its real application when one is able to play Paganini or Ysaÿe, and especially the works of Hindemith. My methods depend on the student's age, what they may have already begun in lessons with another teacher, and I also take into consideration the assessment of their learning style-choosing a method that works best for their needs. Basically you could say that I have no 'one' method. I love being a musician, and I try to impart a bit of that passion in each lesson. I encourage my students to be excited about the music because that is what will motivate that student to practice and make the process enjoyable. For piano I use the Alfred series, and for violin and viola I use a combination of Essential Elements and Suzuki books. As students advance I introduce additional solo repertoire. My voice students learn from a variety of sources. I usually start with a song they know well and work from there. Students also learn a variety of warm-ups and sight-singing techniques. Read More
