I enjoy teaching music, and consider it my calling. Having started double bass in college, I began performing with the Fort Worth Symphony after studying two years. When in college in Florida, I served as Principal (first chair) Bass of the Greater Miami Opera, and the Fort Lauderdale Symphony. In graduate school in Michigan, I was Principal Bass of the Flint Symphony. Returning home to Dallas, I performed with the Dallas Symphony, and recorded over a dozen compact discs with the orchestra. For more advanced players or even older students, I tend to match a certain technique book, Baroque-Classical literature, or Suzuki Book level to their skills sets, such as Mazas or Sevcik etudes, or Bach Suites/Partitas to further boost the skills they have while targeting skills that need more foundation. I use a very concise methodology in my instruction. I evaluate the students level, from there I make a step by step guide (of selected piece and etudes) to show the student their progress into the next level. For students that are new to music I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, this book is really good to start to learn about music and the instrument, and then Suzuki method for repertoire.
