Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I usually begin with the Suzuki method for both children and adults, and once the student has a good command of fundamental violin technique, we progress in the style of the student's primary interest. I am very open to teaching a variety of styles, and can put together a detailed lesson plan for any direction the student may choose. In the event that the student is primarily focused on areas other than the classical repertoire, I definitely begin with Mark O'Connor's violin method that is specifically designed for students interested in traditional folk and fiddle music. Once the student has grasped the basic fundamentals, I start to introduce solo repertoire appropriate to their level, as well as focusing on learning proper technique. If the student has never read sheet music, we will first do worksheets to learn how to read bass clef. If the student has taken another instrument, such as piano, there are some transferrable skills that will allow us to go through this process much faster. As we learn to read bass clef, we will explore the instrument, learn where notes are, and begin making sounds. I use a combination of Suzuki and Essential Elements Technique for exercises and beginner pieces. Read More
