I graduated in 1981 from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Music Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Trombone Performance. I love how music is more than notes on a page. They're expressions of oneself. Knowing how to interpret these notes is very important to learning the fundamentals of music. I use Rubank methoh books for beginner, intermediate and advanced students. I will introduce material from the Arbans method when students have reached a desired level. In addition, I'll find material in the genre that is exciting to the student but also develops their skills and techniques on the instrument. I create individual lessons and goals for each student based what needs to be improved, and what inspires them to practice and get better I am a strong believer in proper techniques, and that they can be obtained simulataneously while studying many genres of music. My teaching experience is really varied. I teach kids that are beginners, advanced jazz masterclasses and evrything in between. I personally love this variety because it gives the possibility to experiment different methods and being open to students feedback so I can build the best lessons for them.
