For beginning students I typically start with the basics such as hand placement and proper holding of the instrument. Next the focus is on learning basic reading of music and memorization of notes . My teaching style is based around my love for storytelling and pictures. I will often ask students how a melodic line or etude makes them feel when they hear it or play it. I develop on this and start to guide the student to see the over arching theme of an etude and to develop a wide pallet of many colors to create a picture with their sound. I like Faber and Faber piano adventures because they teach a lot like I do. I've been developing a power point and You Tube presentation to go along with the book for those students who need more visual stimulus. I like various curruiculum's with Trumpet and Brass players.
