I'm a very passionate musician who loves guiding and instructing students to further their own interests in music. I have had a variety of performance opportunities throughout my time at Western Carolina University from which I graduated in 2012. I have had the opportunity to play in a variety of venues from Hawaii for the Pearl Harbor anniversary as well as in the the Rose Bowl Parade. For beginning piano students, I started with the Piano Adventures Series unless they show a higher than usual natural ability. If I see that are above average, I will switch them to the Modern Course for Piano by John Thompson. Along with these method books, I introduce solo music from classical to modern music. If the student is learning the trumpet or another brass instrument, we begin with Standards of Excellence by Bruce Pearson. Read More

The most important thing to me is to make sure my students love what they do. So I like to make sure that I'm always challenging them but never pushing them too hard, helping them get better at their own pace. At the end of each lesson I like to send students with a sheet having their required and suggested practice materials for the next lesson. Most teachers use a Hal Leonard beginning book. Essential Elements (EE) is popular, as well as Accent on Achievement. I'll be using EE for beginners. I drill ear training, and will have the student memorize simple songs to beginning not only increasing their repertoire, but a fun way of practicing scales.
