My teaching experience has grown tremendously since being a teacher's assistant when I was in high school. I have been consistently involved with teacher music since my graduation from high school in 2007. In the Fort Wayne, IN area, I have worked with marching, jazz, and concert bands with multiple middle and high schools. I also have experience teaching smaller ensembles and private lessons. Last year, I was the assistant band director for a middle school where I worked with students who had never played before and the advanced ensemble. Read More

I began teaching back in my sophomore year of high school when one of my friends wanted to learn how to play the piano. I gave them half hour lessons once a week and tailored my teaching to fit what techniques they wanted to learn. After that, I began branching out and teaching other friends, and eventually found myself helping out the middle school bands during my study hall. Now that I am in college, my own playing has improved and I have found new ways to connect and teach students whether that be in person, or by using technology such as skype. Read More

Over the past thirteen years, I have taught nearly 400 students - beginning as a junior in high school with four pianists. My teaching experiences have ranged from group lessons with fourth-grade, beginner clarinetists and saxophonists, to starting brand new five-year old pianists, to preparing high schoolers for competitive auditions and performances, to substitute lessons with adults. I actively seek to have my students play for people whenever they can (i.e. church, family gatherings), and I seek out and arrange more formal and organized events such as recitals or visiting the elderly and performing at retirement villages and nursing homes. It's my goal to meet a student where they are, and maintain a big-picture mentality. I like to know what other interests they have so that I can draw parallels between those and music. While I am demanding of my students, I set high standards only because I am confident in a student's abilities. Watching potential become reality is rewarding for both student and teacher, and that happens more quickly with high levels of accountability. Read More
Instruments: Trombone
My method depends on the student. Some need book work, some need to just be one with their instrument, and some need to listen and just admire some of the great players. I have a large amount of books I highly recommend of different techniques and musical challenges that I will often use, but I will also put the books away and work on the instrument itself. Every so often, I find it helpful to put the instrument away completely and to just listen to whatever great recording is out there, for listening is the best teacher. Read More
