My teaching style revolves around getting to know my student and his or her abilities/playing style. No two students learn exactly the same way, and giving one on one instruction is where we can work together to develop and progress in a customized way. I approach any kind of teaching as team work. We work together by me giving guidance and the student practicing so both of us reach our desired goals. Read More

I'm a passionate musician who likes sharing his love of music with others. I'm currently completing coursework for my Doctorate in Music at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. I've been fortunate to perform both as a soloist and orchestral musician in Aruba and Italy, in addition to the diverse performing I've enjoyed stateside. Comfortable in a multitude of genres, I am equally at home in the classical realms of orchestral, wind-band and chamber music repertoire, in addition to jazz, marching band and commercial music. Age-friendly materials are my favorite to use. For very young pianists I often buy books with lots of color and large print like Kjos's Piano Party. Flashcards are an important tool for many children to become fluent at naming/reading notes. I also like to have students complete written theory assignments, and, to help students from getting bored, I often "reward" them with single pieces of fun sheet music that can be performed for recitals and competitions. My method depends on the student. Some need book work, some need to just be one with their instrument, and some need to listen and just admire some of the great players. I have a large amount of books I highly recommend of different techniques and musical challenges that I will often use, but I will also put the books away and work on the instrument itself. Every so often, I find it helpful to put the instrument away completely and to just listen to whatever great recording is out there, for listening is the best teacher. Read More

I began teaching back in my sophomore year of high school when one of my friends wanted to learn how to play the piano. I gave them half hour lessons once a week and tailored my teaching to fit what techniques they wanted to learn. After that, I began branching out and teaching other friends, and eventually found myself helping out the middle school bands during my study hall. Now that I am in college, my own playing has improved and I have found new ways to connect and teach students whether that be in person, or by using technology such as skype. Read More
