While I try to follow a mostly K12 standard structure to my private lessons at the end of the day I will be tailoring my instruction to my students wants and needs. I like to set attainable weekly goals with my students in regards to technique and style that will be implemented via exercises, scales and into our repertoire. I'm a firm believer in taking a student where they are and building off of their interests. Finding what a student is interested in and using that as a starting point is a part of my teaching approach. At the same time, there are some things that are critical to be taught at every level that should be incorporated on some level so there's a holistic and balanced education. I play in a wide variety of diverse musical groups on various instruments. I have performed with orchestras, big bands, and jazz combos as well as funk, hip hop, and even metal bands, all at a professional level. Although trombone is my main instrument, it has given me the solid foundation to play euphonium and tuba at a high level as well. My strong background in guitar also gave me the skills to learn ukulele, which now make up almost half of my lessons taught. Read More
