As I Have discussed prior, I love teaching and I love music. Individually they are my favorite, and teaching music just makes my world turn the right way. I like to teach music, but also like to teach life through music. Humans are amazing creatures with emotions, strength and so much more, which is why I mentioned life. We can learn more than just music through any topic. I can teach you music and while you are learning I can guide you and help you realize what a great distresser music can be, or how mentally blocked one can get when under the stress or pressure of wanting to play something and not being able to, just yet. For beginner students who are children, I usually start with the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has advanced to where I can see that they have a good grasp of the fundamentals of the instrument, that is typically when I begin to introduce solo repertoire and supplement with my own material. For adult beginners, I typically will try and use the Essential Elements book to start with but not for very long. Read More

Once the student gets the hang of what they are playing, I phase out of playing my instrument. Read More

For younger students, I like to start off with the fundamentals/basics to set a good foundation to what we will be learning in the future. Lip slurs, long tones, embouchure amp; tuning are all key assets for beginners. Now for my advanced players we will definitely start in the music bible (The Arban Book) and work from start to finish. This will definitely teach players about double/triple tonguing, octave leaps/jumps my personal favorite dynamics. Read More

Along with fundamentals, I always start incorporating music theory, to help them better understand how music is structured and to further train their ear. Of course, depending on the level will depend how far we get into music theory. Even though they might be taking trombone lessons, I don't want to necessarily train them to be a trombone player, but rather a musician. After which, will come repertoire, including solos, method books, jazz charts and orchestral excerpts. Read More
