My method of teaching is to start students with a strong foundation of buzzing and making characteristic sounds on the horn. This includes buzzing with and without the mouthpiece. Also, my students must be able to read music. Reading music is very important to me, having the students be musically literate with a decent tone will take a student far in their musical career. I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. I believe that each student requires differing methods of instruction in order to grow, so I stay adaptable in which exercises and etudes/solos I assign to meet this requirement. I am also generally happy to hear whatever a student wants to bring in if they have suggestions of their own. I think that being open to working on what a student wants to work on, at least most of the time, is instrumental in ensuring that the student stays motivated in their practicing and continues to have fun playing the trombone! I started on a cornet bequeathed to me by a friend of my father's, with a beginner's book, playing in my closet at 8 years old. I was given a trombone by a friend of my sister's at 11 years old, and subsequently became a trombonist. I had one initial lesson, with a saxophonist, who taught me to play the notes F and G. I became a professional trombonist at the age of 19 and didn't go to college for music until I was 27, where I immersed myself in study with professionals for 4 years. Read More

I am a Music Educator with a lot of trumpet playing experience. I have never stopped playing my trumpet. I practice my trumpet as time permits and perform every chance I have. I like to travel and study musical styles and instruments from different countries. I also love the outdoors. I am passionate about instrumental music and want my students to feel the same.
