Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

My approach is methodical and step-by-step. I believe each learning step builds on the last, and that each new skill acquired "unlocks" new abilities and new music that can be played. At core, everything comes down to the twin pillars of fundamentals (including breathing, embouchure, tone, articulation, and range) and music reading, including rhythm and sightreading. In my lessons, I am always warm and encouraging and celebrate success, yet I always direct students' attention beyond what they have just accomplished to the next goal to be achieved. Read More

With my wind instrument and percussion students, I like to start with a method book. My favorites include Essential Elements and Standard of Excellence. I spend a great deal of time discussing the importance of breath and practicing breathing gym exercises. My piano method book of choice varies depending on the skill level of the student. Read More

Speaking from experience, a student learns best at their own pace. With private music lessons, it is a lot easier to identify what skills a student is good and as well as what needs to be worked on. When working with a new student, I like to hear what they have, so that way I can determine what I need to work on with said student. Because in order for a teacher to be as effective as can be for the student, they must get to know the student as a player and see what they already know so that the student is properly challenged and not bored or frustrated. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my school studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the instruments and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I use many different methods in my lessons in order to make my students successful in their musical career. Students are assessed of their playing ability during the first lesson. Students are then provided goals and recommendations for the year. Read More
