Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

Since I have had many different teachers in many different areas of my musical life, my philosophy is to be flexible and open as an instructor. I have learned many different methods and techniques, and depending on the type of lesson I'm teaching, I use whatever methods are relevant. My parents are both teachers so I come from a background of educators. I have been teaching for the last 3 years as I was completing my degree at CU Boulder. Even though I am a jazz trombonist, I focus on finding music that students like, not that I personally want to play. I also highly recommend students to write their own music and play it back on trombone as a way to actualize the songs that are playing throughout their lives. Read More

My teaching experience began in Webster, South Dakota as their high school band director for 11 years. I was then invited to move back to my college town of Brookings, South Dakota to be their middle school band director. I moved to Sioux Falls and taught in the Catholic School System for a number of years. I try to maintain organization and give my students goals to accomplish. In this, I aim to teach them how to create these goals for themselves, giving them a say in what they choose to work on. I will push a student in whichever direction they are aiming for. I maintain an attitude of positivity and try to encourage my students as much as possible. However, I still prefer to openly communicate and make the student aware if they are falling behind. Read More

Whatever instrument private studies we are working on, a balanced approach of performance, literature, theory, and technique are studied. Once the groundwork is established, we even work through composition on their chosen instrument. Students work at their own pace. I have some students who move quite swiftly through their levels, and that is great. Others may need more time, and that is fine. I do find that students who utilize regular and purposeful home practice will tend to get through levels a fair amount quicker. Read More
