I began teaching lessons in college, and have enjoyed it from the very first day. I try to evaluate each student spefifically and see what they need to improve in the most efficient manner possible. Exercises and drills are present in my lessons, but I alwaystry to teach the bulk of trumpet fundamentals through actual music such as etudes, solos, band music, duets, etc. In this style of teaching, the students can pick what they want to play (after I give them a few guidelines), and we can still target the areas of playing that need work. Haven been an educator for over 20 years, I use many methods geared towards student success. I make use of differentiated instruction to maximize student achievement. Materials for lessons are dependent on student level that will include method books, solos, and supplemental music. I encourage students to participate in any outlet that allows them to perform outside of lessons. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I teach my students to practice a growth mindset. As musicians, I find that we can easily become perfectionists. While I think it is important to critique ourselves so we can improve, my policy is that my students critique themselves based on their own progress. For example, instead of comparing themselves to other students at an audition, I encourage them to compare themselves to who they were yesterday. I truly believe that students can more easily reach their full potential when they are focused on growth rather than competition against others. Read More

It's like learning how to ride a bike; the first you will not get but if you keep at it you'll learn it Read More
