I am a flexible and passionate instructor with training in a multitude of styles.I've played trumpet for over ten years and am graduating from the College of Saint Rose Music Program in 2020. I love to teach and spread knowledge of my instrument. I've played lead trumpet in the College of Saint Rose Jazz Ensemble for 4 consecutive years as well as performed on various albums. Performing with a wide variety of groups and genres has been the highlight of the beginning of my music career. I love to teach because not only do I get to teach the students, but sometimes, I learn from my students as well.
My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, where I taught middle schoolers and beginners privately. Now, I do the same, as well as high school and advanced players. I've been consistently teaching students all over for the past 6 years and I encourage regular practice and focus on fundamentals and playing at a high level of musicality even when first starting. I've found that using both the classical and modern approach can help a lot in encouraging students to play and motivate them to learn. If a student isn't enjoying themselves, I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to play at competitions and recitals, and I'll even record them professionally if they wanted to! I also specialize in composition, so if they ever wanted to write their own material, I would be happy to help them on their creative journey! I'm looking for students of all ages and all I ask in return is an eagerness to learn!
For beginning students who are children, I typically begin with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for the basics as well as repertoire, along with my own additional methods of practice. Once the student has a grasp on their fundamentals, I will begin to progress through the book and introduce larger solo repertoire that would be appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I show them my methods of beginning to play the trumpet, as well as something that may interest them and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons engaging and exciting no matter the level of their ability.
One of my favorite things about my job is to see students develop a passion for music and performing. Therefore, it's important to me that each student progresses at a pace in which they are comfortable. I'll encourage this behavior by setting realistic goals for my student at the end of each lesson. I will always acknowledge accomplishments, as this helps the students desire to progress as well as make the students eager to learn more. I will also try to find out what inspires the student so I can tailor my lesson plans to their wants and needs.
