ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BA, CSU Northridge, Music Education BM, CSU Northridge, Wind Performance

Awards:

Outstanding Student Teacher CSU Northridge 2012

Overview:

I am an instructor and performer from Los Angeles where I received my degrees in music education, trumpet performance, and a single subject credential in music education. I have experience in a wide array of styles to cater to various musical needs. I have arranged for and performed regularly with the Vignes Rooftop Revival gypsy jazz collective in downtown Los Angeles. I worked as a sub as an improve soloist for the LA Mambo All-stars. In addition I have performed and recorded as a freelance musician with a variety of swing, funk, country swing, and even more contemporary indie rock and pop artists throughout the Los Angeles area. I look forward to our lessons together.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching while working on my undergraduate degrees at CSU Northridge. I worked as an elementary school trumpet instructor. After graduating form CSUN I began teaching privately garnering much success with my students. For a time I worked as an orchestra conductor for the youth symphony west program running the advanced orchestra and intermediate string ensemble. In addition I worked as a general music teacher at Tesoro Del Valle Elementary School working on the basics of singing and reading. I feel comfortable working with students of all ages.

METHODS USED

For beginning students, I typically start with a combination of exercises from the Hal Leonard Rubank trumpet method book and crafted exercises learned from my studies with masterful instructors. We then work on age level appropriate solo repertoire and duets in which the student and I can play together. For older students we focus on a condensed embouchure development routine and then repertoire from the classical or jazz tradition based on the students interests. I also specialize in Balkan brass music and Arabic music and if the student is interested we can delve into these traditions as well (we do throw in some fun modern music upon request).

LESSON STYLE

Each student is an individual and wants different things out of their study of music. It is important that we hone in on what the student means to accomplish and to set realistic goals. While each student should be challenged, I want every individual to feel a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes when a piece or technique is played with ease. There is a means for every student to develop a solid embouchure. I myself have tried many methods and went through the struggle of finding what works best for most people. Playing music may seem hard at first but it is very attainable with consistent and regular input.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
