ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

I have a Masters Degree in Music from Lehman College and have enjoyed being a Chorus teacher and piano accompanist in many NY schools, including Pleasantville,  Lakeland, Chappaqua, Putnam Valley. All the while, I have had the pleasure of giving private piano lessons for over 10 years.

Awards:

Lehman College Masters Music, Berklee Music School, played piano in the orchestra pit for school plays, recitals and performances. I am also a certified teaching assistant and loved working with the special needs population.

Overview:
My music career began in 1980's as an advertising copywriter and jingle composer in New York City within a big advertising agency. I composed well-known commercials for Purina Cat Chow, Cookie Crisp, Goya foods and other big brands. I created the "slogans" and tunes, hired the musicians, booked the studio recording time and produced the complete :30 TV commercial. After raising my children, traveling to kids parties and a dabble in local theater,  I went back to college for a music teaching degree.
EXPERIENCE
I was a gifted piano student at an early agw and was always involved in music. I was one of those teens who could "pick out" any song I heard, which made me valuable as a camp music director, putting on shows and sing-alongs. As the mother of a son with Autism, I know first hand how important a one-on-one CONNECTION is; most of Sam's strengths, skills and successes come from our shared conversations about pop music, movies, Disney, videos, show tunes, live concerts, etc. I love engaging students one-on-one and building a friendship!
METHODS USED
For beginning and young students, I like the simplicity and clarity of the Alfred Piano Methods, which include a lesson, a "solo" piece highlighting the lesson and a fun, written theory exercise. I have a treasure trove of familiar classical pieces which I can transcribe to fit different levels. I also like the Hal Leonard Essential Elements series for their witty little tunes. I always come with crayons and paper, flashcards, games and other motivators to keep the lesson fun. And I might also introduce Beatle tunes and contemporary music from my bag of tricks!
LESSON STYLE
I am a very nurturing, sensitive and engaging piano teacher and I love discovering what excites my student - then I can cater to their specific needs and strengths. I understand that children these days are so overbooked with activities and I appreciate parents who prioritize practice time: only 15 minutes of daily practicing makes an enormous difference. My teaching styles may vary, but the goal is always the same: to take the student as far as musically possible! I combine instruction with public recitals to challenge and provide a well-rounded musical experience.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
