Overview:
I have had the pleasure of singing professionally for over a decade. From 2007 to 2011, I sang in the chorus of the Tulsa Opera. After fulling my final contract, I relocated to Edmond/Oklahoma City to attend The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). There, I completed my Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in May of 2015 and my Master of Music (M.M.) in May of 2018, both in Vocal Performance. I have performed genres including opera, art song, jazz, soul, and pop. Before singing professionally, I began musically as a songwriter and producer with a background in music notation and computer music.
EXPERIENCE
I'm fortunate to have been a music tutor/instructor for as long as I've been singing. In 2007, I began tutoring music theory while attending school; two years later, I became an associate for Saied Music Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During my time at Saied, I taught piano and voice privately, while also working as a print music specialist. In 2015, I began teaching for the Central Community Music School in Edmond, Oklahoma and have worked with students from age five to age forty and up. No two students will learn in the same manner or at the same pace, but it's amazing to see when a student has a "light-bulb moment."
METHODS USED
When it comes to a teaching method for piano, it depends on the age and the musical experience of the student. Whether my student is taking lessons in piano or voice, I always teach in a theoretical manner, as well as a practical one. I feel it is important for every musician to learn music theory, as well as their instrument. That said, if I had to choose one method, it would be the All-In-One series from Hal Leonard. However, I have used other methods in the past, Including the John W. Schaum series (which is now published by Hal Leonard), and many others. I, also, create my own handouts and supplements using Finale notation software and other sources; that said, I ask ALL of my students to come to every lesson with a three-ring binder and a sharpened pencil with eraser.
LESSON STYLE
In the beginning, we will be building the foundation of our collaboration. For the novice student, a great deal of our time will be establishing a vocabulary. As the foundation solidifies, we will build upon it and add to it, piece by piece. I will provide every student all of the musical tools I have available at my disposal and encourage them to take advantage. Our lessons are part-lecture and part-practice. All student will be able to not only perform, but explain why they are performing what they are. I believe it is not enough to merely know the music, but we must connect with it and believe in it, otherwise our audience will not.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
