Overview:

I am an enthusiastic and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my passion of music with them. I have been playing the drums and other percussion instruments since I was twelve years old. Over the past ten years I've had the privilege to play in several bands which has allowed me to play with various musicians from multiple backgrounds . My love music starts at the drums, and then expands outward towards percussion, audio engineering, and video setup. I greatly enjoy playing Worship, Country, Pop, Electronic, and Rock music, while continuously learning new styles to further my musical knowledge.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience dates back to 2019, as I began assisting a band director with the rhythm and percussion section of the band. Since early 2020 I have been teaching drum lessons privately to any local students that have an interest in learning how to play drums. Encouraging students to practice at least once a week, even if it is just for 10-30 minutes, is a key point I strive to emphasize for my students. In my experience, I have found that when students practice at least once a week, they are able to pick up the techniques and concepts faster, which allows them to understand the instrument and quickly develop a passion for playing music.

METHODS USED

My teaching method begins with teaching a student to play a song on the drums. I have found that while the technical and music theory aspects of the drums are important to teach to my students, the fun side of music, such as simply playing along to a favorite song, is a vital part of learning how to play the drums. If my students are not actively enjoying the lesson along with their individual practice time, then I am not doing my job. If my students are not enjoying the drums, then they will have no desire to better themselves at the instrument. For this reason, I strive to learn what type of music my students love and the music they want to play. Once I know the type of music my students enjoy, I can teach them the musical concepts that apply to that style or genre of music. Regardless of skill level, I believe that anyone who is determined in playing the drums can learn how to play their favorite song on the drums! For beginner students, I like to teach them the fundamental beats, rudiments, fills, and styles of playing the drums, and then apply that to their favorite song. For intermediate students, I like to build off of the basics and add in the more advanced concepts that apply to the type of music they want to learn. This practical method of teaching allows me to ensure that my students are learning the technical side of music, while also enjoying what they are learning.

LESSON STYLE

Ensuring that my students succeed in their drumming is one of my most important goals. Thus, I strive to adapt my teaching style to how the student learns. For example, some students thrive off of written content and concrete examples such as sheet music that lays out a clear "road map" of what music is to be played, while other students play by ear, and prefer to hear what needs to be played before attempting it themselves. I have found that creating a learning environment that fits how my students learn ensures that they will be successful at the drums. This learning environment includes setting realistic goals, acknowledging accomplishments, constructive criticism, and productive communication on the progress made.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
