I am a bassist with a versatile pallet of experiences that inform me when teaching my students. In 2016, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a MM in Contemporary Performance(Production Concentration). Along with my education, I've been fortunate enough to perform in a diverse set of musical situations. I've have traveled across Europe and North America as a professional bass player. I have had the opportunity to perform with a number of great artist including Terence Blanchard, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Sting, Tia Fuller, and many others.
I discovered my passion for teaching while I was a student in college. While at Berklee, I would return home from school and teach students at different schools. I worked(and continue to work) with a non profit organization that facilitated private lessons, ensembles, and masterclasses where I got to develop a skills as a teacher. Joy in sharing information that I learned while in school and seeing the impact that all my great teachers had on me as a student fueled interesest helping others to grow musically.
For students just starting out on their instrument, I start of with the fundamentals. That means scales and etudes that assist in getting the student familiar with their instrument and proficient on an elementary level. For students who already have some experience with their instrument, I assess the skill level and develop from there. These lessons can be a continuation of building fundamentals or getting into repertoire. Ultimately my goal when teaching is to help the student develop a healthy, fun, and effective experience with their instrument.
Because of the nature of the bass in musical settings, my approach to teaching is one I consider "wholistic". That means that in conjunction with developing fundamental technique and building repertoire etc., lessons will involve listening to songs and discusing elements such as groove and instrumental tone. I believe that the study of music should be fun. Because of this, I like to get a feel of what music my students enjoy no matter the age or skill level, that way I can custom fit the material of an individual's lesson to get the best results.
