Overview:
I am a composer, lyricist, active performer & instructor from Flint, Michigan. I graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music with a focus in composition & classical guitar. Throughout my life, I have developed a unique style both as a musician & composer/songwriter. My musical style ranges from classical to avant-garde to popular music. As a multi-instrumentalists, my primary instruments are guitar, ukulele & banjo. As a composer my most recent work, the original musical, "3 Pekes in a Pod," premiered at Mott Community College in Flint, MI on August 2018. It was recently performed on December 1st at Central Michigan University. Other works include the original score for Central Michigan University’s production of William Shakespeare's "Pericles" which earned a KACTF Certificate of Merit in composition and sound design, various short films, & original music for two comedy sketch shows "Infinity Juice" & "Sunny Climbs" performed at Second City, Chicago. In the tri-city area I have had the opportunity to perform with the Midland Orchestra, Midland Center for the Arts, Saginaw Valley State University & the Bay City Players. I spend the remaining time teaching music & as a freelance performer & composer. When I am not composing I enjoy making claymations, doodles & watercolors.
EXPERIENCE
Learning music has change my life and continues to do so. I want to share my experiences with others and hopefully make a difference in their life. My goal as an instructor is to help students gain the necessary skills & knowledge to further themselves as growing musicians. I do this by providing a unique & exciting learning experience that best fits each individual student. I encourage student to not only learn how to read the notes, but to learn music as a language and an art. I have had the opportunity to work with students of all ages, from pure-beginners, to advanced players looking to expand their knowledge. I can also do private instruction in my home, your home or online! For more information, please feel free to contact. I am looking forward to meeting with you!
METHODS USED
For beginner students who are children, I typically teach from the Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Books. This is to get a basis of music such as rhythm, notation & the fundamentals of guitar. These elements would also apply to learning other fretted-instruments. I spend half the lesson time working on book material, form, and technique, & the remaining half on material the student is interested in. I believe it is important for young students to find pieces they enjoy, so they have a specific goal in mind. For adult students, we will find material together that will help develop the desired skills that bests fits their interests. Since adult students have such a diverse taste in music it is expected that each student will have a different goal they would like to meet. After I assess the students skills, we will spend half the lesson on worksheets & exercises that I will provide. We will spend the remaining half of the lesson working through music that best fits the students interest.
LESSON STYLE
Each lessons is focused on the students interest at heart. My job is to help each student reach their desired goal! It is important to know that I will not only help you become a better instrumentalist but a better musician as well. I will help you develop the necessary skills in order to accomplish these goals while answering those difficult musical questions you might not have the answer to yet. I am always mindful of how a student is developing and will adjust accordingly to the students personal growth.
