Bachelor Degree: College of Saint Rose
I'm a senior college student studying Music Industry with a concentration in flute. I started playing the flute about 12 years ago and participated in numerous local competitions which allowed me to play in internationally known halls such as the Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. I started teaching private lessons to students when I was in high school and focused mostly on Classical performance. I am also willing to teach marching band techniques as I was a Drum Major in my high school marching band. I am excited to go back to teaching students!
My teaching experience dates back to high school during the year of 2017. I was a rising sophomore in high school and family friends first reached out to me for private lessons. From then, I was able to teach more students who were not necessarily friends of mine. I encourage daily practice for my students, which usually involves a repertoire, chromatic scales, and major and minor scales. I focused mostly on classical repertoire but for younger students, I allowed the students to choose their own music that sparks their interest. During each lesson, I went over the practices they had done over the past week and corrected any incorrect performance skills or others.
I typically start out with scales for beginner students. I use the Moyse book for long tones and scales, then start teaching repertoire. Repertoire includes, but are not limited to classical music from various time periods to contemporary music such as film scores. I emphasize foundational skills heavily so that students can play repertoires with more ease and precision. I make sure that all lessons are engaging and fun as I believe that the most important thing when playing music is simply enjoying the performance.
I always make sure to be on my student's eye level in order to make the lesson more fun and engaging. I give tips and guides to performance but I also want my students to learn which performance style they suite the best. I also emphasize heavily on why the student wants to learn the flute so that I can make lesson plans accordingly. I also try to encourage my students to participate in various local competitions as well as auditions for bands, orchestras, and more. I want my students to be able to really enjoy performance and dedicate my time to make sure that happens.
