I began teaching students during my undergraduate degree. I've taught over 50 students, grades ranging from 6-12, throughout my undergrad degree. My goal in the music profession is to become a trumpet professor at the collegiate level and have my own trumpet studio. In my lessons, I focus on all aspects of your trumpet skills: technique, musicality, sight reading, and tone to name a few. I encourage my students to establish a normal practice routine in order to optimize their trumpet skills to the fullest. Read More

Even though I teach a wide array of musical stiles, every lesson will include the fundamentals and instrumental approach. Posture and Breathing are critical to emphasize every time we pick up our instrument. No matter what we are performing, this always applies and will be addressed as need be. MOST IMPORTANTLY, if my students and I are not smiling and having fun, then I'm doing something wrong! Although I expect students to do their best and strive for excellence, I like to keep things educationally fun and entertaining. Read More

Practice doesn't make perfect; PERFECT practice makes perfect! The best way to develop a skill is to work consistently and carefully, which is why I encourage all of my students not just to practice until they get it right, but to practice until they can't get it wrong. That being said, students must work at their own pace for this method to be effective. Together, the student and I will set realistic goals at each lesson, allowing the student to feel a personal responsibility in achieving progress. Read More

My goal in lessons is to teach students how to practice. So in my lessons I show them methods for warm-ups, exercises for workouts to develop range, articulation use, and technical playing. I have each of them learn how to play lyrically and musically. In the background to get them comfortable with playing music well and reading it easily, I work with them on music fundamentals to build a sturdy foundation. Read More

I ultimately hope after being exposed to a wide variety of methods and ideas, students will begin to create their own exercises to solve their own musical and technical challenges. I like to assign listenings of various musicians and gage what musical interests a student has. For example, if I notice a student has a particular affinity for cornet solos, I will begin to assign solos in that vein. Alternatively, if I notice a student struggling with an articulation necessary for French solo repertoire, I may encourage a student to listen and learn solos in that style. Read More
